Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Our department of Pharmaceutical chemistry in association with the discipline of pharmaceutical analysis has been in existence in the college since the year 2009. It proudly possesses the professionally trained teaching faculties to educate the various aspects of chemistry viz., synthetic, analytical, computational, stereochemical and natural chemistry subjects in the courses of B.Pharmacy, M.Pharmacy and Pharm.D. It provides sufficient laboratory facilities with sophisticated instrumentation and class room with LCD & OHP facilities, thus meeting to all the needs and requirements of statutory bodies. In our department, research works in undergraduate, postgraduate, inter-department students and outside scholar's level have been conducted.

Laboratory

  • Organic synthesis involving the latest greener techniques like Microwave assisted synthesis (MAOS); Ultrasonic synthesis; Ionic liquid enhancing synthesis; One-pot synthesis and Combinatorial chemistry of compound library synthesis;
  • Spectral characterization for the synthesized compounds using the analytical instruments like U. V, I. R., HPLC, HPTLC;
  • Interpretation of I.R, 1NMR, 13CNMR and Mass
  • Instrumental technique using Conductometer, Fluorophotometer, Flamephotometer, Nephlo-turbiditymeter, Potentiometer, Polarimeter and Refractometer.
  • Phytochemical extraction involving cold maceration, reflux, hot percolation, soxhlet and microwave assisted extraction (MAE) methods;
  • Phytochemical analysis using qualitative tests and TLC methods;
  • Phytochemical isolation involving Column chromatographic separation, Partial hydrolysis and preparative TLC & HPTLC techniques;
  • Phytochemical standardization involving spectral studies;
  • Quality Assurance methods in industry analytical laboratories.
  • Molecular modelling softwares

Research Activities

Researches aimed at pharmaceutical chemistry include organic syntheses involving

  • conventional refluxing technique
  • microwave assisted synthesis and extraction
  • ultrasonic irradiated syntheses
  • combinatorial chemistry based synthesis to bring forth compound's library
  • crown ether or ionic liquids enhancing organic syntheses
  • solvent free one pot syntheses and
  • other greener techniques.

Researches aimed at pharmaceutical chemistry include organic syntheses involving i) conventional refluxing technique ii) microwave assisted synthesis and extraction iii) ultrasonic irradiated syntheses iv) combinatorial chemistry based synthesis to bring forth compound's library v) crown ether or ionic liquids enhancing organic syntheses vi) solvent free one pot syntheses and vii) other greener techniques.

Researches aimed at pharmaceutical analysis area include i) preliminary spectral characterization studies by UV-Visible spectrophotometer, FTIR, purity checking and reaction completion by Co-TLC methods; ii) instruments viz., potentiometer, flame photometer, fluorimeter, nephlo-turbidometer, conductivity meter, pH meter with multi-modes, ultrasonicator, centrifuge, magnetic stirrer are all available for both academic and research work purposes and iii) apart from these, the invaluable presence of sophisticated instruments viz., HPLC and HPTLC adds credit to our department.
