Pharmacognosy

The universal role of plant is the treatment of disease by their employment in all the major system of medicine. Pharmacognosy is the foundation of pharmacy and Current Traditional Medicine , which covers all the aspects of the modernization and standardization research on traditional medicine of the world e.g. chemistry, pharmacology, molecular mechanism, systems biology, proteomics, genomics, metaboloics, safety, quality control, clinical studies of traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani, Arabic, Homeo and other ethnomedicine. Traditional Medicine is a leading and important international medicine system reflecting the current outstanding scientific research progresses of the global traditional, indigenous, folk and ethnologic medicine. In our college pharmacognosy department was provided with adequate facilities. The department comprises of good faculty to provide depth knowledge in pharmacognosy. The goal of our department is to provide a viable platform for our students of future scientists and researchers to promote, share and discuss novel issues and perspectives in diverse areas of phytotherapy and ethnobotany and to keep track of the most recent methodological and theoretical developments in the discipline. We aims to provide information regarding Pharmacognosy, herbs and medicinal plants, structured from basic issues such as the macro & morphological characteristics of the vegetative organs, to the deeper and more complex Pharmacognosy issues as the analysis of active ingredients and other substances or compounds such as essential oils, their uses and medicinal properties.

The department maintains a medicinal garden in our college campus with documented collections of living plants with educational displays for scientific research, conservation and facilitate a direct view of good medicinal plants and improve the cultivation knowledge within our students.

Laboratory

Finest infrastructure with sophisticated and well-equipped laboratories for Extraction, Isolation of active principles, Preparation and standardization of herbal formulations, Nature cures for physical design.

Research Activities

Now we are trying to do collaborative works with industries to formulate new polyherbal formulations and research works. The following research activities can be performed

  • Morphological study
  • Histological study
  • Physiochemical parameters study

Museum

  • Well planned museum is available at different sectors like pharmaceutics, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical chemistry in a distinct way.
  • In pharmaceutics section we have labelled containers, different dosage forms like syrup, suspension, lotion, liquid, tablets, eye drops, suppositories, eye drops are arranged systematically for the further detail studies.
  • In pharmacognosy section we arranged various specimens of crude drugs such as cardamom, liquorice, garlic, fennel, amla, coriander, ginger, ajowan, black catechu, kurchi, sandalwood etc.... for morphological studies we have medicinals of senna, saffron, sarsapariila, tulsi and many more plants..
