The Department of Pharmacology, Karpagam College of Pharmacy, Coimbatore, has organized a two days’ workshop cum hands-on training entitled “Computational approach & in vivo behavioural assessments in Neuropharmacology” at the Auditorium, Karpagam College of Pharmacy, Coimbatore-32 on 22nd and 23rd August 2022. The proceedings of the event began with the welcome speech delivered by Dr. C. Senthil Kumar, Co-ordinator, and the Organizing Secretary Dr. A. Madeswaran, Professor delivered the theme of the workshop. Dr. Praveen T. Krishnamurthy, Professor & Head, Department of Pharmacology, JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, was the Chief Guest of the event, inaugurated the seminar and delivered the talk on importance of neuropharmacology for young researchers. Dr. S. Mohan, Principal, Karpagam College of Pharmacy, who was convener, given his Presidential address. The Director R&D, Karpagam College of Pharmacy, Dr. A. Nagarajan was also present during the inaugural function of the seminar.
In the first session of Day 1, Dr. Praveen T. Krishnamurthy, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology delivered an information-filled talk on “Behavioural assessments in preclinical neurological studies”. The subsequent session was focused on “Role of Pharmacogenomics in the prediction of the drug response and adverse effects in neurological disorders” which was discussed by Dr. R. Kesavan, Associate Professor, JIPMER, Puducherry. The afternoon session the hands on training for the delegates in the computational approach in the management of neurodegenerative diseases with the panel of experts.
The Day 2 the morning session was began with Dr. C. Senthil Kumar insight on “Overview of DMPK studies in neurodegenerative studies”. The subsequent session was focused on “Zebrafish as an animal model in neurodegenerative studies” which was discussed by Dr. P. Ekambaram, Associate Professor, Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore. Followed by Dr. Pradeep T, Senior Resident, Karpagam Faculty of Medical Sciences and Research, delivered his presentation on the topic of Recent trends in management of neurodegenerative diseases.
The day 2 of afternoon session, the panel of experts were trained the delegates in the various in vivo behavioral assessments in the neuropharmacology research. After the training session, Dr. A. Madeswaran, Organizing Secretary, Professor, Karpagam College of Pharmacy, delivered a scientific talk on Newer molecular approaches in the management of neurodegenerative diseases.
Valedictory Session was started with a Welcome Address by Mrs. Malathy, Assistant Professor. The two days workshop report was delivered by the Organizing Secretary Dr. A. Madeswaran. Dr. K. Elango, Professor, Karpagam, Academy of Higher Education has given the valedictory address. Dr. S. Mohan, Principal, Karpagam College of Pharmacy, who was convener, given his key note address. The Workshop had 50 delegates from various institutions across the state. The delegates were presented with certificates of participation. Mr. N. Sundararjan, Assistant Professor delivered the vote of thanks.
